Rene Thibault | 3/1/2013

February was a tough month for crop prices in North Dakota. Across the board, the state`s crops took hits, from canola, to sunflowers to wheat. The decreases were due to many factors including crops from over-seas, and harsh weather. Nowadays its more than just supply and demand going on, commodity trading has a big impact price changes.

“Prices trade 21 hours a day, Sunday evening through Friday afternoon, so it`s a huge thing. It goes on all the time there`s global influences, what happens in the weather in China can influence grain prices in Minot North Dakota,” said Kayla Burkhart of SunPraire Grains.

Burkhart says that because prices swing so fast, it’s important for producers, and investors to learn the best ways to market and price their crops.
