Civic Center Meeting | Video

Jerame Novak | 2/28/2013

Some residents want to upgrade the Civic Center, while others want to build a whole new building. Today, both sides had their first opportunity to ask questions about the two proposed plans for the Civic Center.

About 120 people showed up at the Civic Center for the first of three meetings. There were brief presentations on two plans for the Civic Center. One plan, to expand and renovate the current building, is estimated to cost over $26 million. While the other plan for a whole new facility in north Bismarck is estimated at $150 million.

Attendees were able to voice their questions on both projects.

"And I really think it comes down to what the community decides is most important. I can`t say that one option is better than the other. They both have very valid and viable concepts," said Jeff Ubl with Ubl Design.

There will be two more meetings next week. On Monday, March 4, at the Horizon Middle School Cafetorium and on Tuesday, March 5, at the Wachter Middle School Cafetorium. Both meetings are in the evening from 5:30 to 7:30 and are open to the public.
