Minot Tourism Increase | Video

Rene Thibault | 2/28/2013

The numbers don’t lie, North Dakota’s tourism industry has increased once again and Minot is following the trend. In Minot, the visitor’s bureau saw a 12 percent increase in the number of Canadian border crossings and a 10 percent increase in the number of stops at the Visitor Center. The money being spent by visitors isn`t just a benefit to local businesses, but life in Minot in general.

“They’re impacting our downtown. They’re impacting our shopping malls. They’re making more businesses want to relocate here when we are busier and leaving those sales tax dollars. It’s impacting us directly because they are going to infrastructure and economic development and property tax relief, so its helping the individual Minot citizen when these visitors are here spending dollars,” said Visit Minot Executive Director Wendy Howe.

Visit Minot plans on spending 50 percent of their budget on attracting Canadian visitors in 2013.
