Property Tax Exemption Bill Fails | Video

Jessica Roose | 2/26/2013

A property tax exemption for soldiers overseas on active duty failed in the Senate. Supporters said military members and their families should not have to worry about taxes during a deployment.

Others said the issue needs further study.

"We have to figure out how much it`s going to be utilized, which we don`t know. So we have an unknown fiscal note to the state because obviously we`re not going to put this all on the backs of the counties and the cities," said Senator Joe Miller (R) from Park River.

Miller says service members are already receive a housing allowance while they are deployed.
