Children of all ages were lacing up their skates and hitting the ice today at Maysa Arena for the annual military skate. The NDSU Extension Service and Operation Military Kids sponsored today`s event to support children and youth in the area that are impacted by deployment.

One of those youngsters is Natosha Inwood whose step dad recently returned home from a six month deployment to Afghanistan. While it was not easy having him gone, Inwood says she always looks forward to military events like this one because she feels a special connection to the other families.

“I met a couple of her children here that were their family member was deployed and my mom kind of sat down with them and talked to their mom and they talked about different things they went through and stuff.”

The free skate was open to families connected to all military branches.
