New Town Man Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter

A New Town man who got into a fatal vehicle crash while intoxicated pleaded guilty today in District Court to a charge of involuntary manslaughter. According to the United States Attorney`s Office, in April of last year, Merrill Mann II, 37, pulled out in front of a van west of New Town. His vehicle and the van collided, a 84 year old passenger in the van was killed. Mann was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The charge carries a statutory maximum penalty of eight years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Mann will be sentenced in May.
