Airport Security | Video

People sometimes lead such busy lives that things can be overlooked. That can be the case when it comes to air travel. When traveling at the Minot International Airport, some people are walking through security with dangerous items in their carry-on bags.

Airport Director, Andy Solsvig says there could be some confusion about what a passenger can bring in their personal bag verses a checked bag.

"Firearms, knifes, and other items can be placed in the checked bag. As long as the person is not placing that weapon in the personal bag."

Solsvig says that the reality is that some people who are bringing items into the airport security do not actually remember they had it on them in the first place.

"Sometimes people forget. Or, they forget it is in their luggage and sometimes we`ll have a situation where it has to be confiscated. I don`t think people intentionally try to get through with certain items."

Being in North Dakota, a large hunting state, the Minot International sees all sorts of firearms come through. However, they must be properly stored.

"The only requirement, that I`m aware of is the firearm must be in a lockable case and the ammunition must be separated," said Solsvig.

So, to speed through the security check, the firearm must be checked, declared and locked in their proper case.
