St. Mary`s Carnival | Video

With this winter season being a lot colder than last, many people are spending plenty of time indoors. This weekend, there were plenty of events going on in Bismarck to get people out of the house. Today St. Mary`s High School held their 62nd annual carnival and all the games and prizes left kids leaving with big smiles on their faces.

Hundreds of people packed the gym for St. Mary`s Central High School Carnival. Young ones ranging from just a few weeks old to college kids spent their Saturday afternoon playing games and winning prizes.

"Just a great atmosphere for everybody," said chair Tim Megal.

With a windy and cold day outside, parents knew exactly where to take the kids.

"It`s just something fun for her to do you know, especially in the winter time. There not much for us to do out in the winter," said Janessa Vogel from Bismarck.

"It`s just great to see everybody out having fun," said Jodi Sigler from Bismarck.

The carnival included a basketball shot, speed pitch, some face painting and many other fun games for all ages to participate in and families tend to stay for hours.

"You see people that come here with their kids and five hours later you see them walking around in other rooms," said Megal.

Chairwoman Lynn Megal expects a great turnout every single year. Just two hours into the carnival, the gym was already crowded. Her favorite part of the carnival is watching the kids enjoy themselves. "The thing I just really love about the carnival is when the little kids come walking through that door and they see the flags in the air and the balloons and all the excitement of the games and everything. Their eyes just light up and the big smiles on their faces."

Sigler enjoys the smile on her son Seth`s face and something else. "Watching him eat cotton candy and getting it all over his face."

All profits from the Carnival are distributed back to the five Bismarck Catholic Parishes for education.

The Carnival will continue tomorrow from 11:00 to 3:00. The raffle grand prize is a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro convertible. Other prizes include a 60 inch TV, a laptop and an iPad.
