Officer Safety | Video

Rene Thibault | 2/2/2013

Law enforcement officers never know how a situation is going to unfold when they arrive on scene. That was the case Friday night when the Minot Police Department arrested Ian Singer, 33, for DUI.

Minot officers transported Singer to Trinity Hospital for a blood draw. While at the hospital, Singer became hostile, got a hand free and struck an officer as they were handcuffing him.

Minot PD knows the importance of being cautious and aware during every situation.

"There`s no such thing as a routine call. And as a result of that, you have to be prepared as a police officer to be able to defend yourself, defend your life, or the safety of others as well, at any given time for any circumstance, because there`s no such thing as routine,” stated Sr. Patrolman Aaron Moss.

Singer was charged with Simple Assault on a Peace Officer, a Class C Felony. He could face a $5,000 fine and up to five years in prison.
