Increase in Psychiatric Care | Video

Jennifer Joas | 1/25/2013

In light of the recent shootings across the country, North Dakota is joining the discussion surrounding the need for mental health services. Legislators are looking at a bill that would allow facilities to increase the number of psychiatric care beds in the state.

Bismarck Senator Dick Dever (R) says North Dakota is already doing a good job of meeting psychiatric needs, and he wants that to increase. "I think we do a lot of that. I think we need to understand where we are, before we understand where we`re going. So I think North Dakota should celebrate the fact that we deal with that."

The bill would require facilities to decrease their child care bed capacity to get more psychiatric beds.
