Main Street Minute: Souris River Brewery | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 1/21/2013

Aaron Thompson was constantly being asked where the brew pub was in Minot. "So I decided to write a business plan and got about halfway into that and realized I could not be a brewmaster cause I don`t know how to make beer."

That`s when Thompson found his brewmaster, Nick Holwegner. Shortly after, the two knew they needed a menu, so they then found their chef, Dan Haff.

"Once the team was in place, it really just happened," said Thompson.

Together, the three men opened Souris River Brewery where they pride themselves in bringing in local products.

"All the grainery wood you see on the walls come out of a grainery in Landsford. All the church pews came out of a little ghost town called near Simco. We tried to recycle and save as much as we can, done almost all of our business locally," said Thompson.

Although Souris River Brewery does not have a sign outside of their building, it hasn`t stopped many customers from shuffling in.

"A lot of people say, `We need a sign. We don`t have a sign,` So we`ll get a sign, I promise, but we are not too worried about that yet, because we`re full almost every day," said Thompson.

Thompson says he hopes that anyone who walks into his pub can feel the local flavor they brewed in their business.

All of the beer is unfiltered and is made on site in their brew pub.

If you are interested in stopping by the brewery, the location is on 32nd 3rd Street Northeast.
