Filing With the IRS Delay

| 1/14/2013

North Dakota’s Tax Department has some advice for people who are affected by the IRS filing delay. "The IRS will begin processing both electronic and paper returns on January 30," said Tax Commissioner Cory Fong. "This means that there is no advantage to sending in paper returns before the date because the IRS will not be able to process them."

If you use a preparer or tax software and file electronically, your state return will he held until the federal return in accepted.

Fong says that e-filing is one of the best options to file your returns. "E-file remains the fastest method to file. And this year, with the delay and the potential back-log at the federal level, taxpayers who use e-file will experience faster results."

Because of tax law changes, the IRS announced that it would begin processing returns on January 30. Eight days later than their original start date.
