Roosevelt Getting More Doors | Video

Kristin Clouston | 1/7/2013

Bismarck`s Roosevelt elementary school is getting a major safety upgrade that will help separate students from people who shouldn`t be in the building. The two story building was designed as an open concept school, with no doors separating the rooms. The district is updating the building and had put doors in on the second level.

The plan was to wait until summer to put them in downstairs, but parents said they want it done now.

"A couple parents had talked to me, as had the principal, regarding the need to have the walls and doors installed immediately and Darin Scherr and the facilities and transportation crew reported that should be done by Monday. So kudos to everyone that spoke up in such a respectful and polite way and that`s a project that we got done," said BPS Superintendent Tamara Uselman.

The district is doing a safety audit of all schools and will be conducting infrastructure, technology and training programs to increase safety.
