There`s a new bakery up and running in Mandan, filling a void in the city and in the stomachs of sweets lovers. Sweet Beginnings Bakery is at 411 West Main in Mandan. Tami Helmers opened the retail location after working out of her home for the past eight years.

"It`s just fun to hear people`s reactions and look forward to coming back. I`m gaining my clientele and they`re coming back and they`re saying, `Oh I love this, I have to buy some more, I`m gonna give it to a friend.` And that`s what it`s all about," she said.
The bakery offers different specials throughout the week, like cupcakes on Wednesdays and apple streudel on Thursdays. Helmers also specializes in birthday and wedding cakes.

Hey Ocean is branching out and opening a new retail store in downtown Bismarck. They`re moving into the space left behind when Urban Girl moved to the north part of the city. The new store will sell footwear for men and women, as well as handbags and accessories. Owner Michelle Kaufman says the store will offer a good mix of items for young professionals.

The store is expected to open sometime in March.
