"We get lost and found items turned in almost weekly," said Minot International Airport Director Andy Solsvig. Items such as laptops or iPads are usually claimed rather quickly, but forgotten clothing items could sit there for years. "We keep a database of all lost and found items, we hold onto them for quite awhile, a minimum 90 days if not a year or two."
If you leave your belongings on the airplane, you must contact the airline immediately before they ship it to their headquarters.
Mericar Chen was lucky enough to get her laptop back after leaving it in the overhead cabin. "They just found it there and then I know what it looks like, so I was trying to tell them that, it`s hard case, a black and red one."
When we travel we usually put our names and numbers on our luggage, but it`s important to also ID our phones and laptops just in case those get lost too.
Solsvig advises flyers to pay attention to all your items, take a look around you before you get up on or off the plane and then if something is lost make sure to contact both ends of where you`re traveling to and from.
Items that are kept in the lost and found for more than two years will be given to the police. Solsvig said the strangest thing he’s ever seen left behind is a painting and architecture plans.
