Corps to Issue Permits | Video

Jessica Roose | 12/27/2012

The Army Corps of Engineers will soon begin issuing permits for both municipal and industrial uses along the Missouri River. Applicants will not be charged for these permits, at least not yet. The Corps still hasn`t completed their study to determine if they will charge a fee.

Members of the Congressional Delegation say if the Corps does decide to charge they should expect a legal challenge.

"We`ll continue to vigorously oppose that. This is our water, we`re entitled to it and we`ll take whatever steps necessary to continue to push that effort," said Senator John Hoeven.

Hoeven says these uses of the river water are authorized under the Dakota Water Resource Act of 2000.
