Most people are counting down to Christmas. Others are trying to complete wind turbines by the end of the year to qualify for the federal production tax credit. The Energy Information Administration estimates that 12,000 megawatts of wind power will be added by the end of the year, and one of those wind farms is in New Salem. Minnesota Power has been working throughout the year on finishing 70 wind turbines.

The federal tax credit provides an average of three million dollars per wind turbine.
