Some Minot families are receiving a gift that will allow them to rest easy.
"Throughout the year what we do is we kinda keep track of families that might have a need for beds considering the way housing prices and the rental prices are around. A lot of folks out there that our spending 60 to 70 percent of their income just on rent and food and things like that alone so having a bed for their child might be something they hope to have but it may not be a necessity at the time," said Community Action Executive Director Willy Soderholm.
Slumberland Furniture and Community Action are working together to bring a little comfort into people`s homes by donating a dozen beds to families below poverty this month.
"Especially now we know that there`s a lot of people with the economic development and everything. There`s a lot of people that are benefiting from that but there are people that aren`t too. They`re being hurt from this, of housing that isn`t affordable. So at least we can provide something by giving them a bed that`s comfortable for these children," said Slumberland manager Vern Notbohm.
Community action provides a list of names to Slumberland and then Slumberland personally delivers those mattresses, box springs and frames to each of the families.
"Kids are just super excited, here this could possibly be their first bed they ever had," said Soderholm.
Store employees will be delivering the beds this week and is hoping they will receive a good night`s sleep from now on. Our Redeemer`s Church is also providing handmade quilts to go along with the beds.
