Xcel Energy Asks for Rate Increase in ND

| 12/18/2012

A power company asked the North Dakota Public Service Commission today to okay an increase in electricity rates. Xcel Energy says the proposed increase is needed for the company to operate, maintain and expand its nuclear plants and electricity grid.

The request represents a 9.25 percent overall increase in customer rates. The company is also seeking implementation of interim rates effective February 16. Xcel says that under the interim rates, an average monthly bill would increase by about 8.6 percent, roughly seven dollars.

The Public Service Commission is expected to hold public hearings in the spring. Following commission review, the final rates could take effect next fall.

More information can be found at www.psc.nd.gov or www.xcelenergy.com.

Xcel has about 90,000 customers in North Dakota.
