Burleigh County Approves Flood Control Project | Video

Joel Porter | 12/17/2012

People living in Fox Island will have more access to their homes in the event of high water. This week, the Burleigh County Commission approved a contract with the North Dakota Water Commission to build a flood control gate along Tavis Road. The project would allow engineers to pump water under the road. The job is expected to cost about $1.5 million. Of that total, Burleigh County would pay about 20 percent.

"It`s kind of a priority for us to get that taken care of. I know it`s been a long haul for those people, and we`re going to address it," Burleigh County commissioner Jim Peluso said.

County Engineer Marcus Hall says the gate project is expected to last through the majority of next summer
