Homelessness in Bismarck | Video

Alex Hagan | 12/14/2012

Homeless shelters in Bismarck are getting more people staying in single shelters. However those staying do not stick around for long periods of time. Volunteers say when the weather is severe, more people stay at the shelters.

Job seekers make up the majority of their guests.

"A lot of them, especially those that are in our residential program, all have full-time positions. They just can`t find their housing and so people are coming in and they`re staying with us for a few days especially if they`re going to go out west and look into the energy industry for a means of employment," said Ruth Meiers executive director Jaci Bugbee.

Ruth Meiers employees say they have noticed a lot more people taking part in their food market program.
