More Roads to Plow | Video

Alex Hagan | 12/14/2012

Bismarck`s roads are getting harder to plow as the city keeps expanding. Plow routes have expanded 50 miles since 2000. Public works employees say it is a constant challenge when a snow storm hits.

They say they try to focus on emergency routes first before plowing side streets.

"When we get over six to ten inches to 12 inches of snow, it takes us longer. We`re dealing with 36 to 48 hours to plow the entire city, but you`re dealing with a lot more weight, you`re dealing with a lot more snow. We`ve got a lot of issues that we`ve got to contend with as we`re trying to maneuver through traffic," said Jeff Heintz with Bismarck Public Works.

The Public Works Department will add four more equipment managers for plowing next year.
