Conrad`s Farewell | Video

Jessica Roose | 12/12/2012

Senator Kent Conrad delivered his farewell speech on the Senate floor today. He thanked North Dakotans for allowing him to serve for 26 years. Conrad discussed the fiscal challenges facing the nation and said, despite some differences with members of the opposing party, he truly believes everyone in the Senate wants to do what`s best for the country.

"You know, I hear people being critical sometimes when they leave here, of this institution. Let me say this. I am not in their ranks. I leave this institution with enormous respect. The United States Senate is the greatest deliberative body in the world."

Conrad will retire from the Senate on January 2. We will air a farewell special later this month.
