Flooding Outdoor Rinks | Video

Joel Porter | 12/10/2012

There`s not much snow outside in Bismarck. But crews are making sure there will be enough ice; to skate on, at least. Parks and rec workers started flooding outdoor rinks around town this morning. It will take several layers of ice to get the rinks are ready for skating.

They say they hope to freeze a few inches of ice at each rink before school gets out for Christmas vacation.

"Now, with these cold temperatures, things have solidified. Hopefully, it stays below 30 degrees. We can keep putting water down at these rinks and get people out here skating for the holiday season," said operations director Greg Smith.

There are 12 public outdoor rinks in Bismarck. This year, the parks department is flooding 11 of them. There won`t be a skating rink at Solheim school this winter.
