Governor Reflects on Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan | Video

Retha Colclasure | 12/5/2012

Before outlining his budget details this morning, Governor Dalrymple paused for a moment of silence to remember the North Dakota National Guard soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan this week. Sergeant 1st Class Darren Linde of Devils Lake, 41, and Specialist Tyler Orgaard of Bismarck, 20, were killed when an improvised explosive device struck their vehicle in southern Afghanistan. Specialist Ian Placek, 23, of Bismarck was wounded in the attack and is in stable condition.

Dalrymple says he spoke with the families yesterday.

"I said to them it`s important to remember that these men were doing what they chose to do, they conducted themselves honorably, they knew they were doing their job. We`re so proud of them. We all will be mourning together."

Dalrymple says we are all blessed there are people in our state who are willing to do that job.
