Earlier today the Otto Bremer Foundation donated $75,000 for the construction of the outdoor fitness facility. The park will be built on the 11 acres surrounding the current YMCA building, and will be incorporated into the city`s walking paths. The YMCA hopes the fitness park will reduce childhood obesity, increase family time, and provide a park for the growing area in Southwest Minot.
“Bremer`s always been a huge supporter of the YMCA and we`re fortunate that we can continue to support this wonderful organization that really focuses on community health, which is really important to the Otto Bremer Foundation and also Bremer Bank”, said Bent Mattson, the President of Minot’s Bremer Bank branch. “We also have four or five great months where people like to get outside, so this gives them the opportunity. We`ve seen housing grow tremendously in this area, as you see across the street. A park outside is needed and we really wanted to provide that opportunity”, added Roger Mazurek, Director at The Y.
The YMCA wants to raise another twenty thousand dollars, but the outdoor fitness equipment has already been ordered, and The Y hopes construction of park will begin next spring.
