ND Democrats Pick New Party Leaders | Video

Joel Porter | 12/2/2012

North Dakota democrats gathered in Bismarck this weekend to prepare for the upcoming legislative session. State senators and delegates nominated party leadership on Sunday evening. After a party vote, democrats picked Grand Forks state senator Mac Schneider to take over for Ryan Taylor as Senate minority leader.

He`ll be joined by new assistant minority leader Sen. Joan Heckaman from district 23 in New Rockford.

Democrats will send three new state senators to the Capitol this winter, but they say they still have to work for bipartisan support to accomplish their goals.

"Because our issues, most of them for the state of North Dakota are not partisan. They`re good for the state of North Dakota, they`re good for the citizens, they`re good for our districts and we find a lot of support," Heckaman said.

Party members from the state House will gather at the Democratic headquarters in Bismarck on Monday morning to vote on their upcoming leaders as well as figure out committee assignments.
