Hit and Run Fatality | Video

A Ward County Resident is dead after a late night hit and run crash. A witness called Minot police and reported that a man had left the scene of a hit and run accident. Police located the suspect speeding down 11th Avenue East and followed him.

Moments later, officers came upon the vehicle down in a coolie off of Sunrise Court. The suspect had missed a right turn in the roadway, driven off a steep hill, and crashed into an embankment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say this was an extreme reaction to a hit and run situation. “You`re not as equipped to drive in a state of shock or panic, and we don`t know what`s going through people`s minds all the time. Where as that where you need to stop and think about what you need to do. And follow not only the law and obligations, but you yourself, you want to keep safe yourself,” said Sergeant Margie Zietz, of the Minot PD Crime Prevention Unit.

The man`s identity will be released after his family has been notified.
