Safety is very important when doing an work in western North Dakota. That`s the message the Public Service Commission is trying to send to a Minnesota-based company. Last October, Shores Companies Incorporated failed to call 811 before they dug in the ground, and they struck a pipeline in Stark County and caused an oil spill of 200 barrels.

The company violated the century code for phone call procedures, and did not show up at a scheduled hearing.

"It`s very important that we continue the enforcement of violations of call before you dig. Keep the awareness out there because the critical infrastructure in the ground, we just have to make sure people are taking care of it," said Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk.

The company needs to pay a $2,000 fine to the PSC.
