Belcourt Man Sentenced on Firearm Charges

A Belcourt man will serve over two years in prison on firearm charges. Michael W. Gourneau, 32, was sentenced on Monday to two years and nine months in federal prison on a charge of possession of firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

In December of 2011, officers were called to a residence for a report of a firearm being discharged. They discovered that Gourneau had threatened individuals in the home and had fired a revolver into the floor. Gourneau was prohibited from owning a firearm because of previous convictions.

In addition to the prison sentence, Gourneau will have three years of supervised release and will have to pay $100 to the Crime Victim`s Fund.
