Heading to The Big Apple | VideoSarahbeth Ackerman | 11/13/2012
"I never thought I would be able to do it but now that we are it`s kinda surreal," said dancer Emily White.
The girls auditioned for the Macy`s parade and were the only two chosen from North Dakota. Eleven girls were chosen nationwide.
"I didn`t think I`d be able to dance in it, I`ve always wanted to go to New York and watch," said dancer Madesyn Porterfield.
Even though Porterfield has never been to The Big Apple, White is not stranger to New York or even the Macy`s Day Parade.
"My sister is 20 now and it was really exciting being able to watch her and so now she`ll be going back to New York with us to watch Madesyn and I dance in the parade," said White.
White was just in the fifth grade when she traveled to New York with her family in support of her sister`s moment in the parade. Five years later, her family will be cheering her on while she dances on the city streets.
The girls will be in New York City for a week, where they will meet the other dancers and begin their practice sessions. This is where they will learn their routine that they will perform in the parade.
"Everything is pretty planned out, per hour and it`s kinda a busy schedule but I`m really excited," said Porterfield.
Both White and Porterfield have many busy hours of dancing ahead of them, but they both say it will be well worth it to live out their dream.
White and Porterfield dance for Minot High School Varsity Dance Team. White competitively dances for The Dance Company and Porterfield dances for Brick Studio in Minot.
