Heitkamp Wins U.S. Senate Race | Video

Jessica Roose | 11/7/2012

We were on the air until almost 2:00 this morning before we could clearly declare that Democrat Heidi Heitkamp defeated Republican Rick Berg in the U.S. Senate race and it wasn`t until this afternoon that Berg finally conceded.

With all the hype in that race we knew it would be close. Just 3,000 votes is sending Heitkamp to Washington. When the day started, we thought there could be a possibility of a re-count, but just before 1:00 p.m., Berg conceded in the race.

"Our auditors, our people that are working the polls across the state do an outstanding, if not a perfect job of recording all these votes. I kinda thought about it, it`s like the North Dakota way. But that means to me, theres not much that`s going to change," he said.

Heitkamp is not granting interviews today, but she did thank the representative for his service and putting his ideas out there for the voters. Supporters who stayed at the Democratic victory party until very early this morning got to hear from her just after 2:00 a.m.

"When we all take the reigns of this democracy through the electoral process. This is what happens, we can win," Heitkamp said.

Heitkamp`s staff says she will be available for interviews tomorrow.
