Student Voting | Video

Jessica Roose | 11/5/2012

Democrats are upset at a Get Out the Vote effort by the Secretary of State that they say left out tribal students in the state. They say a letter was distributed to students by Al Jaeger which outlined voting procedures and information about where to find the correct polling location. Which was not given to tribal students.

"He can get the letter out today, tomorrow`s Tuesday, it`s election day. So the clock hasn`t run out yet. There`s still time to make this right," said ND Dem NPL Communications Director Rania Batrice.

Jaeger says it was not individually passed out to students but that it`s a pilot program with the North Dakota University System, which allows students to generate a personal letter online that they could use as voter identification when they head to the polls. He added it has not been expanded to private universities, including the University of Mary and Jamestown College.

If successful, he hopes to include private universities and tribal colleges in future elections.
