Happy Birthday North Dakota | Video

Jennifer Joas | 11/2/2012

This is North Dakota`s birthday. North Dakota joined the Union as the 39th State 123 years ago. The process toward statehood began in February of 1889 when President Grover Cleveland signed the Enabling Act. The North Dakota Heritage Center is in the midst of a large expansion, and plans on having a big unveiling in 2014.

The director of the Historical Society, Meri Paaverud, says the anniversary is a big deal, and it`s also a day to celebrate being a North Dakotan.

"North Dakotas has been through hard times, and we`ve been through good times. This is one of the best. And we have so many good things going on with low unemployment and great jobs and a lot of money in the state," Paaverud said.

If you`re looking for a way to celebrate statehood, the department of commerce just launched LuvND.com. The site has 123 ways to explore the state like a virtual bucket list.
