Haunted Places in Williston | Video

Evan Kruegel | 10/31/2012

There are plenty of rumors about places in Williston that are supposedly haunted. Today, I toured two of those establishments, to find out if the spooky claims were true.

The first destination was Million Dollar Lanes, where spooky rumors have been circulating around Williston for years. Jese Sickler has been working at the bowling alley for more than 20 years. He says the widespread rumors that the bowling alley is haunted, are absolutely true.

"It’s not like you see ghosts, but you see a lot of strange things happening"

Sickler has had numerous run-ins with what he calls a spirit, keen on playing practical jokes. He`s seen numerous items mysteriously move in front of his eyes, including pull tabs flying out of the trash, and vacuum cleaners driving themselves across the floor. And he`s not the only one, every employee I spoke to said they`ve witnessed unexplainable occurrences.

"All of our employees, they know. When they start, they know. Everyone here has had something where they can say, `that`s not right.`"

But no one claims to have seen an actual ghost. If that`s what you`re looking for, the Old Armory is your more likely destination. The building, constructed in 1915, served as a commissioned military site before eventually becoming a theatre.

Reports over the years include faint whispering, mannequins moving, and the presence of an unknown man. That "man" might just be an old soldier, who supposedly used to guard this staircase behind the theatre before it was boarded up.

"People do claim have seem a man in the building in various places, and some of this has happened when there were groups of people here."

Quale has spent more time in the old armory over the last 30 years than anyone else, and although he is open to the idea of the building being haunted, he remains a skeptic.

"I basically don`t buy into it, however there are two instances of something I couldn`t really explain: And that was a tap on the shoulder, I heard someone walking down the hall. I was convinced someone was coming into the dressing room, and I felt a tap on my shoulder and I thought okay somebody is playing a joke on me, but there was nobody there."

It`s difficult to confirm whether either of the sites are actually haunted, but at the same time… the claims are also difficult to refute.
