For many people, dressing up just once for Halloween isn`t enough. So it`s a good thing there are a few events going on where people can try out a few different costumes before the big night.

Running around town is the typical way to spend Halloween. But running around Sertoma Park could be another way to celebrate at the second annual Monster Dash.

"Still encouraging costumes, having a costume contest, looking for another great turnout," said Tim Sass with the Fraternal Order of Police.

Last year, nearly 200 people showed up for the 5 and 10 K walk and run. This year, organizers are hoping to top that mark and they are making it a little easier for parents.

"We`re actually going to have a carnival going on inside. So younger kids or those who don`t want to run with mom or dad, we`ll have volunteers at the carnival so they can do the run," Sass said.

If running in a costume isn`t your thing, and you`re heading out with kids to trick or treat, police still have a few things to keep in mind.

"What we`re asking parents to do is make sure they`re going out in daylight hours, it`s safer. Crossing in intersections instead of darting out between cars. Kids get excited and are running from house to house," said Clint Fuller with the Bismarck Police Department.

And buy a costume that fits well.

"Make sure if they`re wearing masks they can see well, and the costumes aren`t dragging so they`re going to trip," Fuller said.

He`s also asking drivers to also keep an eye out for those little ghosts and goblins.

One final tip for costumes, carry a flashlight or use reflective tape so you`re easier to spot. You can also pick up some glow sticks at costume shops.

The Monster Dash race is at Sertoma Park in Bismarck tomorrow morning. The race starts at 9:30. Registration begins at the community center at 8:00.
