USPS Reducing Hours | Video

Amy Fox | 10/23/2012

With more people using email and other technology, fewer people are visiting the local post office. Now, the United States Postal Service is making some changes that will affect small town post offices all over the country.

As part of a nationwide effort to accommodate customers and operational needs, USPS is making some cut backs due to financial problems. Before any new policies are made, Burlington residents were given a survey asking them if they are fully utilizing the postal services.

"Our new strategy is to reduce the hours of operation and stagger the window service times between here by towns. You`re office has been designated to become a six hour office,” said USPS Operational Manager Wanda Cleveland.

USPS is planning to add village post offices at existing locations, like grocery stores, where you can purchase stamps and ship flat rate packages.
