Benefactor Ralph Engelstad had strong wishes that the nickname and logo remain, but a foundation board member says Engelstad would have accepted the settlement.
"Well, keep in mind that the symbol stays. So, I think Ralph Engelstad would say under the circumstances with what we were facing that this is a very responsible settlement," said Earl Strinden with the Engelstad Foundation.
Strinden adds that a special display is now being planned for the lobby that will tell the story of the nickname.
UND can`t implement a new nickname until 2015.
