U.S. Army Band Performs in Bismarck | Video

Joel Porter | 10/21/2012

He`s served in the army for decades but today a Bismarck native returned to North Dakota and he brought the band with him.

Colonel Tim Holtan now conducts the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus. The band and chorus performed at Century High School this weekend. Students from Bismarck and Mandan were also chosen to perform with the group.

The field band is in the middle of its fall tour, performing in states throughout the Midwest.

"The army field band`s job is to connect the army to the American people and we travel about 100 days out of the year. And we go to places where the army`s not really a big presence. And we get to say thank you for supporting the troops," Col. Holtan said.

Governor Jack Dalrymple also presented Holtan with a certificate recognizing his achievement and service to his country.

On Monday evening, Holtan will be teaching a clinic at Mandan High School at 7:30 p.m.

The class is open to the public.
