MSU Criminal Justice Grant | Video

Rene Thibault | 10/19/2012

Minot State University`s Rural Crime and Justice Center (RCJC) will be upgrading its protocols and procedures, thanks to a big donation.

The center received a $300,000 Department of Justice grant. The center promotes ways to reduce domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking on campus. While stalking isn`t a major concern at MSU, school officials, law enforcement and students need to be prepared for any situation.

“Students really can find themselves in an uncomfortable situation. ‘Is my boyfriend just possessive, or is he stalking me?’ It`s about helping them understand that dynamic. And hopefully that`s one of the pieces of the bystander intervention, where a roommate will go, `Your boyfriend is obsessive and he`s stalking` and how do we address that particular situation?"

The Justice Center will coordinate with students, campus security, local law enforcement agencies, and the Domestic Violence Crisis Center. The RCJC will receive $100,000 per year for three years, through the grant.
