Here`s what supporters and opponents have to say.
"He [Obama] clearly seized on this opportunity. This is not a drill, he came out fighting, punching in the first few seconds of the debate and interrupted Romney just as often as Romney was interrupting him," said Politico reporter Dave Catanese.
"We can`t hide behind the fact that the first one was not [Obama`s] best performance. So absolutely he did a much better job of just really being clearer about his points and also calling Mitt Romney out about the things he`s not being very clear about," said ND Democratic NPL Communications Director Rania Batrice.
"[Romney] talked about, you know, lowering the cooperate income rates, getting rid of some of the loopholes and deductions and making it more broader based and fair across the board," said NDGOP Executive Director Anthony Reedy.
"Most polls that came out after the debate, flash polls, showed that Obama had it over Romney. But translated, the real numbers that matter we`re going to have to see numbers out of Ohio, Virginia, Florida because that`s where this election is going to be decided," Catanese said.
The candidates also spent a good amount of time discussing energy, even mentioning the Bakken Oil Field here in North Dakota.
