Don’t Buy It, Until We Try It: Eggies | Video

If you`ve ever had trouble cooking hard boiled eggs, there may be a solution for you. In this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out Eggies, an egg cooker.

They advertise Eggies as a product that will help you boil eggs without the shell. Not to mention, it`s as easy as three simple steps. All you have to do is crack, boil, and twist. And, there`s no more messy pealing involved.

But, does this product actually work? Well,”Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It."

"I think it depends on who taught you how to make a hard boiled egg, you know. I think there`s certain tips of the trade to do in it,” said Jesse Zwak, Perkins Restaurant and Bakery Owner and Operator.

While there are many different ways to prepare eggs, new cooks can sometimes struggle to find the perfect recipe. So we decided to catch up with a professional to try out Eggies, a gadget to help prepare hard boiled eggs easily.

On the box they say it`s as easy as three simple steps: just crack, boil, and twist. So, we decided to try it out.

After pulling the Eggies out of the box and reading through all the fine print, we were instructed to fill each container with food release spray, which is something not advertised on TV.

Once we cracked the eggs into the Eggie containers, we sealed them up to boil.
We set the timer for 15 minutes and waited to see what would happen. But, after about 10 minutes, we already had to take one Eggie out of the pan because the lid popped off and we were afraid it would melt.

The remaining two eggs continued to boil until the clock went off. As we took each egg out of its container, we had a little difficulty getting the eggs out.

"It would be appear I didn`t get good coverage on this side of it, so the egg partially stuck to the container," said Zwak.

But, is Eggies all it`s cracked up to be?

Zwak said, "It`s certainly not the product alone that`s making a hard boiled egg if you didn`t have any food release spray at home, I don`t think it would work at all."

While Eggies was easy to use as advertised on TV, they failed to mention you`ll need to use food release spray, like Pam, in order for the product to work correctly. And, the taste, well it was rubbery, so you`ll probably want to stick with the old fashioned hard boiled eggs. This week`s, "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs down.

We also had to throw away the three Eggie containers we tested because there was so much residue leftover from the egg.
