Bismarck Flag Football Numbers Surge | Video

Joel Porter | 10/6/2012

Dozens of kids were throwing around the pigskin this morning in Bismarck. This weekend, the youth flag football league wrapped up its season with a jamboree.

Organizers say this year, participation in the league has nearly doubled. Around 110 kids between third and sixth grade signed up.

Coaches say the non-contact game helps kids learn the fundamentals before they jump into the midget league or junior high.

"It`s actually a good way to get all the kids out there playing time. And everybody gets to try out different positions and it`s just a lot of fun to watch the kids play," Century High School senior Ben Kraft said.

Bismarck Parks and Rec is now preparing for the start of boys youth basketball league, which begins on November 5.
