Proposed Pyramid in Williston | Video

In Egypt, they`ve lasted for thousands of years and if a Georgia-based architectural firm follows up on what it claims, we might see one in North Dakota. The "New Cimarron City" would be a pyramid shaped housing structure, that if approved, would become the tallest building in North Dakota.

The proposed "Cimmaron City," is unlike anything ever seen in the United States. According to designers, the closest comparison would be the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.

"We`ll have supermarkets, bowling alley, daycare center, you name it. Everything will be included, plus commercial, and a lot of retail space as well," said designer Gilbert Geiger.

The pyramid would be even larger than the Luxor, standing at 370 feet. In fact, it would easily eclipse the capitol as the tallest building in the state. Designers are already trying to purchase land, but they haven`t submitted a single plan to Williams County Commissioners.

"We haven`t seen anything. We don`t know where it`s going, we don`t know anything about it, and obviously one of the biggest concerns and questions we`d raise is how are we going to provide the infrastructure to provide the services to this facility?" said County Planning and Zoning Commissioner Tate Cymbaulk.

Designers say they`d build a police outpost on the site, and use solar panels along exterior walls to cover up to a third of the electricity.

"If you look the site plan, it shows roughly 38 acres, and we`re purchasing roughly 80 acres, so the rest of that land will be for infrastructure, sewer systems and such," Geiger said.

The pyramid would be a huge tourist attraction, but county officials say the site has a long way to go before it becomes a reality.

Designers say they`re working on a proposal, and they expect the pyramid to be complete within 24 months. If it goes well, they plan on building two more pyramids just like it.
