Presidential Debate: Round 1 | Video

Rene Thibault | 10/4/2012

Last night was the first of three Presidential debates between President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

The debate in Denver focused on domestic policy and went like many experts predicted. Romney came out aggressively and tried to make a strong statement, while President Obama focused on not making mistakes.

Overall, it was a pretty typical opening debate.

Dr. Jynette Larshus, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Minot State University, said that both sides were most likely happy with their opening performances.

“We have one in the books, two more to go. The first one was what we expected. Romney campaign can put one in the "W" column, but the President`s campaign staff probably isn`t unhappy with what happened.”

The next debate will be held October 16 in New York and will be in the style of a town hall meeting. The topics will be foreign and domestic policy.
