Reading Celebration | Video

Kristin Clouston | 10/4/2012

Sometimes children earn rewards for what they do over the summer. Ninety seven students from Miller Elementary read at least 900 minutes while school was out. A few even read more than 8,000 minutes.

The school held a celebration today, recognizing the summer readers. Each of them received a gift card.

"Children can lose up six weeks of education over the summer so it keeps then in balance. It keeps them reading and we have a lot of testing and a lot of reading when school starts, so it gets them ready for the school year and they`re more on top of their game," said second grade teacher Amy Ersland.

The top readers from each grade also got to draw for an additional prize.
