Getting Ready for Winter Weather | Video

Amanda Lindquist | 10/2/2012

Fall weather in September for North Dakota has been unseasonably dry and warm; but October is off to a much different start with colder temperatures and yes, snow.

Homeowners aren`t the only ones getting ready for a drastic change in the weather. Retailers are also gearing up for winter. Snowblowers were being wheeled out at Ace Hardware - Arrowhead today.

Owner and Manager Jen Slind said, “It`s October, it`s time to switch from fall and yard cleaning and start thinking about snow removal.”

Slind has already sold half a dozen snow blowers and has another dozen on hand.

“I think people living in North Dakota generally like to be prepared. They know we have a winter season no matter what, so people don`t want to be caught off guard.”

Minot resident Michael Nash is one of those people.

In order to prep for colder temps, Nash says, “Put the hoses away, blew out the sprinkler lines, get a warm spot for the dog and cat.”

Even though it may not be a harsh winter, snow blower sales could still be up in Minot.

Slind says, ”The flood that was here, a lot of people lost what was in their garage, snow shovels, snow blowers.”

In addition to snow blowers, Ace Hardware was also putting out snow shovels and windshield scrapers today, just in case the forecast calling for snow Wednesday night is right.
