The softball diamonds in Bismarck were loaded for a round-robin game of kickball. St. Alexius Medical Center held a kickball tournament Saturday to raise money for renovations for the hospital`s Children`s Center.

More than 350 players took to the field at the Clem Kelley, McQuade and Cottonwood softball diamonds all for a chance at a trophy and some bragging rights.

"Our hope is that it grows to the point where we`re using all of the softball fields in the Bismarck-Mandan area. And every year it`s gonna be designated, the proceeds will get designated to the Children`s Center within St. Alexius," said Kile Harmon, development director for St. Alexius Medical Center Foundation.

"I haven`t played kickball probably since about fifth grade," said Barbara Little Owl with a chuckle. "Reliving my youth you could say."

Renovations to the Children`s Center are expected to cost close to a million dollars. The hospital will be transforming the center into Alex Town, named after the hospital`s mascot.
