Prescription Drug Takeback Launch | Video

Retha Colclasure | 9/28/2012

The U.S. Attorney`s office in North Dakota is launching a prescription drug take back program this weekend aimed to fight back against prescription drug abuse on reservations in the state. From 10:00 to 2:00 tomorrow, the four reservations in the state are offering locations for people to bring in their old, unused, or expired prescriptions.

It`s free and anonymous, and officials say it can go a long way towards preventing abuse and protecting the community.

"We`re really trying to reduce the supply of prescription drugs on the reservation. One of the main ways that people can get prescription drugs to abuse is they take them from the medicine cabinets of friends and family and then they use them, they sell them on the streets and we want to cut off that supply," said U.S. Attorney Tim Purdon.

The drug take backs will be at the following locations:

Fort Berthold Reservation:

New Town Civic Center, 105 Soo Place, New Town, ND

Spirit Lake Reservation:

Fort Totten Police Department, DTI Building, Fort Totten, ND

Standing Rock Reservation:

Red Gym in Cannon Ball Housing, Cannon Ball, ND

Community Building, Red Hawk Tail Avenue, Fort Yates, ND

Turtle Mountain Reservation:

Turtle Mountain Law Enforcement Center, Belcourt, ND
