55th Street Bypass Open | Video

Jenny Castro | 9/27/2012

If you`re looking to save travel time, the newly completed 55th Street northeast bypass is now open. The bypass yesterday and is already getting use from commercial vehicles and residential drivers looking to go around city traffic.

Crews just finished putting stop signs on the intersection of 27th street northeast and 46th avenue. Project engineers want to remind drivers that they stop there going north or south but keep going east and west.

"Since we opened at noon yesterday, there`s been a lot of trucks and traffic starting to find out its open and we hope to start using it to keep some of the trucks and everything off our local streets in town,” said Jeff Elwain, project manger of Ackerman-Estvold.

The 55th street bridge is the second part of the project which is scheduled to be completed next spring. The existing 55th street beside the bridge is still open. Gladen Construction is the prime contractor for the bypass portion of the project.

There will be a ribbon cutting next Wednesday at 2:00.
